abandoned settlement
Ive been crushed by deadlines the last few months at work and Ive been thoroughly neglecting this blog, so now that I have some time I thought I'd change things up a little for this post and show something that actually pertains to my work as a matte painter. Ive been working on this for fun the last little while and finished it up just the other night. The original image is pretty big (over 6k) so if I'm feeling really ambitious I might project the painting back onto geometry and do a camera move through it to take advantage of that resolution. Meh, probably not.

Jonny Greenwood is awesome (iPad sketch 9/15/12)
As if being one of the greatest guitarists of the modern era wasn't enough, Jonny Greenwood also happens to be a pretty freakin sweet film composer. I just listened to the soundtrack of "The Master" and it's easily on par with his soundtrack for TWBB (that's saying something). Anyways, while I was listening I thought I would do a quick sketch of Jonny rocking out.

evil alien cat samurai
well the semester hasn't even started and i'm already knee deep in schoolwork. i've promised my classmates that i would not show any of my new work on the video game we're making for our senior project (at least, not until it's released) due to its top secretness. so you may be seeing fewer posts in here for the next while. in the meantime, here's a quick sketch i did last night.

george washington caricature
i haven't sculpted in zbrush for a couple months and i have to dive back into it for a school project so i thought i'd do a little warm up exercise and sculpt my favorite president:
i created the base mesh in silo then sculpted textured and painted him in zbrush, rendered him in maya and finally i did some touch up in photoshop and painter.

shark week
every year discovery channel dedicates an entire week to sharks in hopes that they can appease them from coming on land and killing all mankind. this is that week. so grab a bucket of chum, sit back, and be terrified.

cowboys and aliens
i love me a good western! specially ifin it gots james bond, 'ndiana jones, 'n space aliens in it!
with each tv ad i see i am looking more and more forward to seeing this film. as long as it doesn't contain a scene in which shia labeouf and a band of friendly monkeys swing down from the jungle canopy to help out harrison ford, i think i'll enjoy it.

spaceman (7-17-11)
i've been geeking out lately to old school NASA stuff. it blows my mind to see the kind of equipment that was used to get humans from the earth to the moon. i think a ps3 could probably have run the entire apollo 11 mission by itself and still had the hardware to let the guys at mission control have a COD tourney. anyway, all that geeking out eventually inspired this retro astronaut:

graphic frame(7-13-11)
just messing around in sketchbook pro the other day with a heavy chisel marker and this was born. obviously the style was inspired by graphic novels. however, there was really no intended story, hence the cop-out word bubble question mark. so i'll just leave this one open to interpretation. throw in a comment if you have something clever for him to say.
